Test Run in Indy

Yesterday I spent most of the day on the 51st floor (830 feet up) of the Chase Bank building (see arrow) configuring an automated Weather Channel display system. You can see the TV antennas on top of the building.

Last night I took a route almost identical to the road shown above to do a test UHI transect of Indianapolis. Some of you may know of Meridian Street there.

The weather was not at all cooperative, low overcast, thin fog, misty, with a breeze. But I decided to do a test run at midnight so that I could work out any kinks or surprises. I’m glad I did, because I got diverted accidentally on detours downtown which took me off the track that I’ll be able to avoid now.

Predictably, with the low overcast and wind, there wasn’t much of a UHI profile to measure, though it appears there was a slight one in the data. The datalogger worked great, as did the GPS logger. I saved everything along with 4 local weather stations data along the north-south route. I’ll look again later.

Tonight’s weather looks better, Pt.Cloudy to clear, low about 35 (last nights low was about 57).

Problems with the weather display system today, it didn’t run at 7AM as planned, so back up to the top of the Chase Building for now.
